A Cloud of Unknowing

A Cloud of Unknowing is a solitary prayer space designed in response to the octagonal shape of the Immanuel Chapel at Virginia Theological Seminary. Before entering the chapel, visitors were invited to take off their shoes in the hallway and read instructions for the practice of contemplative prayer. Entering the room alone, they closed the curtain behind them. The wall text is a translation of The Cloud of Unknowing, an anonymous mystical English text from the 14th century.
